Since we now have an official cast list for the upcoming live action Lupin the Third film, I figured it would be good to learn a little more about the actor behind each of the characters!
Shun Oguri (Lupin the Third) began his acting career at the age of 12. Since then, he’s taken various lead roles, directed films and won many awards, including ones for “best actor” and “best talent.” He has taken part in fourteen stage productions, playing characters such as Alex DeLarge from A Clockwork Orange and Fortinbras in Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Ironically, Oguri has even played a detective in the drama Tokyo Dogs. During March last year, he wed the beautiful and talented Yu Yamada.
Meisa Kuroki (Mine Fujiko) is both an actress and a singer. She is represented by the agency Sweet Power and she is currently signed to Sony Music Japan. Her real name is Satsuki Shimabukuro, while Kuroki is used simply as a stage name. Kuroki has acted in many Japanese films and TV shows, winning several awards including “best supporting actress” and even a “Japanese jewellery best-dresser prize.” She played a princess in the stage drama Akai Shiro, Kuroi Suna.
Tetsuji Tamayama (Daisuke Jigen) was born in Kyoto, Japan. He is an actor and a model, featuring in various fashion magazines including the popular Checkmate. Tamayama starred in the twenty-fifth series of Super Sentai, the original Japanese version of Power Rangers. It was there Tamayama took the role of GaoSilver, a 1,062 year old Gao Warrior from the Heian period. Since then, he has gone on to star in many films, including Rockers and funnily enough, a 2009 film named Goemon.
Gō Ayano (Goemon Ishikawa XIII) is a Japanese actor who was born in Gifu Prefecture, Japan. He has starred in several films and TV series. He has worked with Shun Oguri in the past, with Ayano taking an acting role in Oguri’s first film as a director, Surely Someday. He also starred in Crows Zero 2 alongside Meisa Kuroki. According to the DramaWiki, his hobbies include photography, watching movies and playing guitar.
Tadanobu Asano (Inspector Koichi Zenigata) is perhaps best known in the west as Hogun from the film Thor. His real name is Tadanobu Satō, with Asano being used as a stage name. He has starred in over fifty films, including the lead character Kakihara of the incredibly violent Ichi the Killer. He also voiced the character Frisbee in Takeshi Koike’s Redline animated film (Koike may be recognised as the character designer for the 2012 Mine Fujiko spin-off series.) Asano has won several awards, including “most popular performer” and “best actor.” He has his own band, enjoys horse riding and karate. His father runs a talent agency and according to IMDB he is one of the most important Japanese actors of today.
We hope you learnt a little more about each of the actors behind Lupin and company! I think you will agree with me in saying they are more than qualified.
